Rangers Edge Falcons 8-7

ORLEANS-The Lake Region Rangers withstood a late game rally by visiting Richford, and held off the charging Falcons 8-7 for their fifth victory of the season.
Ranger catcher Corey Whitten made two big throws late. The first picked off a Richford runner at third with one out and the second nailed a stealing Falcon baserunner at second for the games last out.
The Rangers had built an 8-4 lead on the strength of three hits by Whitten and a pair by Jake Smith.

ORLEANS-The Lake Region girls broke open a 3-3 deadlock with a four run fourth, paving the way to their fifth straight victory, 8-3 over Richford. Senior hurler Danika Gallup went the route scattering four hits and helping the cause with three hits along the way.

Falcons Handle U-32

NEWPORT– After a questionable season opening match against the U-32 Raiders that was tainted by suspect pairings by U-32, the North Country girls tennis team went into their rematch with the Raiders looking for redemption and found it, defeating the visitors from Montpelier 5-2.
One of the two losses for the Falcons came in the number one singles match where Martha Petzoldt battled Erin Connor for two hours before finally succumbing to defeat 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
