Veteran Falcons Have High Hopes for 2011

August 31, 2011

NEWPORT–The North Country field hockey team has potential. They have fourteen seniors returning in 2011, and they have set some high goals for themselves.
"The girls are really excited," said returning coach Chantelle Bouchard, "I think they will do well, and their goal is the states."
It is a lofty goal, but not one that is unobtainable.
What must occur in order for this to happen will be the emergence of players that are ready to take their game to the next level in order to fill some pretty important shoes that were vacated by last years' departing seniors.

Having finished the previous season with a 4-10 record, Coach Ruetz knows that his team needs to improve.

City Flooded with Water Meter Queries

August 31, 2011

NEWPORT CITY – For the past several years, the Newport City Council has been trying to determine the most equable way to bill residential taxpayers for their water and sewer rates.
Currently, newer single homes, including 100 or so whose owners agreed to be sources of data, and many multi-unit apartment buildings, have already used meters.
After looking at the data collected over the past several months, the city council has determined that the fairest billing method is for all properties to have usage meters. The money collected will cover the city’s expense for providing water.
