Greg Bean and Jane Horton hold the club champion honors for Orleans Country Club after a two day medal stroke play event. Greg Bean scored a 76-72 for 148. Jane Horton scored 84-83 for 167. Bob Horton took the President's Cup honors with a low net score of 62 on Sunday. Mark Fauteux took the Junior Club Championship with 98-92 for 190.

Therese Diane (Lussier) Heitzman passed away unexpectedly on July 22, 2011 at her home in Maineville, Ohio.
BARTON â€“ Several months ago, Lorie Seadale set out on a mission to bring the record of the longest Cadillac parade to this small community, once home of Henry Leland, the inventor of the Cadillac. On Wednesday, the record was not only broken but exceeded the hopes and dreams of many.
The previous record of 102 cars was held by a community in the Netherlands. The new record, set yesterday during the first day of the Orleans County Fair, was 298 cars. Guinness Book of World Records representatives officiated over the successful attempt.
DERBY- The Vermont Electric Company (VELCO) sent only two representatives to the Derby Planning Commission meeting Monday evening, even though VELCO was not on the agenda, again. Prior to the meeting, Planning Commission Chairman Joe Profera said that he did not think VELCO officials would be attending this meeting.
A record 194 runners & walkers gathered at Irasburg Common on Saturday morning, August 13, to participate in the 5th annual Kingdom Run. Three course records were broken as athletes from France, Canada, Vermont, and ten other states displayed their athletic talents in this competetive, but friendly sports event. Laurel Cole from Jericho, VT smashed the Womenâ€™s 5K-Run with a time of 20:10. Geordie Heller of Putney, VT sailed by the finish line with a new course record in the Menâ€™s 5K-Walk with a time of 35:35.
NEWPORT CITY â€“ A Coventry man got more than he expected from a news reporter who refused to be intimidated by him.
Judge Robert Bent held Cristopher Smith, 26 of Coventry, without bail pending his arrangement Friday, Aug. 12, in Orleans County Court.
Smith is facing a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony charge of attempted aggravated sexual assault with a weapon, and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. Smith, who appeared in court on Thursday, chose not to enter a plea until Friday.
DERBY â€“ A lack of finances has caused officials at Indoor Recreation of Orleans County (IROC) to pull the plug on the system that heats the therapy and lap pools. The therapy pool is closed but the lap pool will remain open, unheated, at least through next Tuesday.
â€śWeâ€™re trying to decide how much of the pool we can keep open, if any,â€ť said Executive Director Phil White. â€śWeâ€™re looking to see whether we can get some help with operating costs to keep the therapy pool open. Until we have some solid support for that, we have to assume weâ€™re not going to heat the pools for a while.â€ť
Barra–– Shirley Ann (Proulx), 63, passed away August 6, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family, at Newton Health Care Hospice Center in Newton, MA. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13 in St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, Allen St., Burlington with interment to follow in Old Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, August 12 at the Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N. Winooski Ave., Burlington.
