Derby, VT â€“ IROC announced yesterday that discussions are continuing with the Vermont Economic Development Authority as IROC seeks to refinance, reduce, and restructure its debt. VEDA has determined that IROC needs additional support for VEDA refinancing to be workable.
Phil White, Chairman of the Board at IROC and Executive Director (without pay) made the announcement.
Jeff Twiss, Vice President of Media Service and Alumni Relations for the Boston Celtics, will be the guest speaker at this yearâ€™s Orleans/Northern Essex County Athletic Hall of Fame dinner on August 27th. Twissâ€™ father Bob, an inductee of the Hall two years ago, resides in the area and helped secure his sonâ€™s services for the event.
Jeff graduated from UVM in 1977, and prior to his time with the Celtics was a teacher and three sport coach at Randolph High School.

Nash Basom, 69, died at his home in Glover on August 3, 2011 surrounded by his family. Born in 1942 in Alexandria, Virginia, Nash first fell in love with Vermont when he attended Farm and Wilderness Summer Camps as a youth in the 1950s. Later, he and his partner, Mariel Hess, moved to Vermont permanently, where they built a home in Glover and raised their daughters, Reeve and Kit.Â
NEWPORT CITY â€“ Dwayne Calloway, Jr., 28 of Newport City, pleaded not guilty to five different charges and is being held without bail. According to court records, charges include felony first degree aggravated domestic assault with a weapon, a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor charge of unlawful mischief, a felony charge of aggravated assault with a weapon and misdemeanor of operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
NEWPORT CITY â€“ About 200 jobs are slated to come to the stateâ€™s most economically hardest hit area, the Northeast Kingdom. The jobs will be created by AnC Bio Vermont, which is part of AnC Bio Korea, a biotech firm located just outside of Soul.
Payeur–– Craig Bernard, 64, of Port Charlotte, FL/Island Pond, VT, passed away unexpectedly on June 21, 2011. His funeral will be at St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond, VT on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Father Francis Conners as celebrant. Internment will be at his parents' plot at Lakeview Cemetery on Pleasant Street following the Mass. The family will receive family and friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

NEWPORT CITY â€“ Dwayne Calloway Jr. of Newport was arrested Thursday and is being held on $25,000 bail after he allegedly threatened his mother, Bernadette Dewing, with a machete and a gun, ransacked her Hinman Street home, and later attacked a Massachusetts man with a knife and punched out the window of the man's car on Wednesday.
DERBYâ€“The Womenâ€™s Soccer League semi-finals were held at the North Country Junior High School on Wednesday night. The twin billing featured number three Colombia Forrest taking on number two Spates and number four Fortin Transportation squaring off against top ranked NC Pink a.k.a. what seems to bare a striking resemblance to the projected 2011 North Country girls high school soccer team.
