Vikings, Rangers Tie at 1

September 14, 2011

ORLEANS --- A seemingly routine game, turned intense over the final 10 minutes of regulation, as the Lake Region Rangers battled to a 1-1 draw against the Lyndon Institute Vikings Tuesday afternoon.
“We need to play the full game with more intensity,” Coach Brad Urie said after the game.
Over the first 40 minutes both teams played solid soccer. Each side had opportunities to score, but neither team could capitalize and put the go-ahead goal in the back of the net. It looked as if neither team wanted to take control of the game, and stake their claim as the team to beat.

If Frank and Michelle Richardi, owners of Lago Tratoria, have their way, a hotel will once again grace Newport's downtown.
The Richardis want to open a 20-room hotel and restaurant on top of their existing restaurant.

Pastor Michael DeSena put out a call at the Saturday night and Sunday services and 16 people showed up the next day, Labor Day, to make the 90 mile trip to help any way they could. The pastor said a colleague let him know there was a need for help in Hartford and Waterbury.

NEWPORT CITY – In 1958, Dwight D. Eisenhower was in the White House, a home sold for $30,000, the first Pizza Hut opened and Yvette Deslandes started her medical career in Orleans County.
Deslandes, who retires from North Country Hospital at the end of this week, started working as a nurse’s aide at the former Orleans County Memorial Hospital. When she started, her uncle told her she would not last at the hospital more than a week.
