NCUHS Stages Dramatic Comeback, 28-26 Over Slaters

September 18, 2011

NEWPORT-The North Country Falcons got down by ten points in the first half before rallying for a 28-26 decision over Fair Haven Friday night.
The Falcons senior power back Adam Pothier carried two Slater defenders on his back into the end zone with under five minutes remaining to clinch the win. The Falcons, now 3-0 on the season, showed great resilience and a never say die spirit to complete the comeback.
The contest started on a bad omen early as the Falcons promptly fumbled their first play from scrimmage on their own 35.

Falcons Beat MMU 2-1

September 18, 2011

NEWPORT–When a team is squaring off against a heated rival, and yes MMU has become a rival as of late in the world of North Country girls soccer, the words you do not want to hear are;
"Coach I'm sick and can't play."
While those are not the exact words spoken to the coaching tandem of Joe Batista and Peter Alexander, that is the situation they faced as starting goaltender Lindsay Geoffrey was unable to go on Thursday afternoon against the Cougars.

Rangers Handle Indians, Win 3-1

September 18, 2011

DANVILLE–The Lake Region Lady Rangers traveled to Danville on Saturday, and they didn’t disappoint the fans that made the trip down to see them play. The Blue and White walked away with a 3-1 victory, much to the pleasure of their Head Coach Brad Urie.

Essex Crusies Past NC 5-1

September 18, 2011

NEWPORT–An ugly first half that saw the undefeated Essex Hornets put a four spot on the board set the stage for a 5-1 win over the Falcons in boys soccer action on Friday.
"In this game we learned what works for us as a team," said head coach James McKenny.
And perhaps what doesn't, as things did not get off to a good start at all. Essex was issued a penalty kick early in the game, and while waiting for said kick to take place, NC netminder Logan Fortier was issued a yellow card for taunting the Hornets' Said Gosto.

Solons Upset Falcons 1-0

September 18, 2011

NEWPORT– The Falcon field hockey girls, despite not playing at their best, should have picked up an easy win over the Solons of Montpelier. Instead, they were unable to to get their offense going and fell by the score of 1-0.
"I thought this wasn't our game, honestly I am at a lost for words," said Coach Bouchard after the game.
The Falcons clearly were the better team on the field, and that is even with all the errors that they made, but it was the little things that bothered the coach so much.
