Falcons Fall 3-2 to BHS in OT

BURLINGTON– The North Country boys soccer team dropped a close game to Burlington in overtime by the score of 3-2.
"It was another strong defensive performance by our squad," said Coach James McKenny.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the final minutes of regulation, Brian DeLaBruere put his head to work, putting in back to back goals off his noggin to tie the game.
The Seahorses would not be deterred by the Falcons late rally.
"Hustle made goals happen (today)," said McKenny.

North Country Officially Welcomes Cheerleading Back into the Fold

NEWPORT–It is official.
Cheerleading is making it's long awaited return to North Country Union High. After their second meeting on Tuesday, Head Coach Danielle Gage and Athletic Director Mike Kiser both confirmed the team's status as active.
"We are going to be cheering at the football games on the 30th and the the 21st (of October) and if there is a play-off game we will be there too," said Coach Gage.

Burglars Heist $10,000 in Weapons from Brighton Gun Shop

BRIGHTON, VT - Tyler Hebert was busy replacing a front window to his store on Tuesday afternoon, after a thief broke in during the early morning hours.
Hebert said the alarm at the store was activated sometime after 3:30 a.m. and although police responded very quickly, the burglars were long gone. “Obviously they knew exactly what they wanted,” lamented Hebert.
He said that it took only minutes for the determined thief or thieves to smash out a front window and snatch an item worth over $10,000 from a glass display case only a few feet from the front door.

Bear Seen Stalking St. Laurent Street

NEWPORT CITY – Last Thursday evening, Sharon Dukett of St. Laurent Street heard her dog barking. When she started to look around, Dukett observed a bear behind her house. The bear came out of the woods and remained behind her house for about five minutes before retreating into the woods. Dukett estimated the bear was about waist high.

Tollman Plea Deal On Hold

NEWPORT CITY – The Albany Fire Department’s former treasurer, Jennifer Tollman, entered a plea of guilty Tuesday to a felony charge of embezzling money from the department.
Tollman had agreed to a plea deal for a three-year deferred sentence. However, because of the severity of the charges, Judge Robert Bent decided to consider the agreement and make a decision in three weeks. For now, Tollman is free on conditions.

Rice Shuts Out Falcons 3-0

NEWPORT–The North Country Field Hockey team ran into a talented group of girls from Rice Memorial on Tuesday afternoon as they fell to the Green Knights by the score of 3-0.
Going into the game, Coach Chantelle Bouchard understood her team would be facing an uphill battle, and her girls were prepared to make a stand.
"Our team was playing big defense (today), that is what we knew we were going have to do from the get-go, and hopefully get to 7 on 7 play, but it didn't work out that way."
