CANAAN -- The Craftsbury Academy boys picked up their first win of the young season with a 4-1 victory over Canaan High School Tuesday afternoon, and ran their overall record to 1-2.
Jason Martin and Kyle Adams each picked up 2 goals for the Chargers en route to the victory. Andrew Marckres played outstanding in net, giving up the loan Canaan goal on a penalty kick with 8 minutes remaining in the contest. Coach Ruetz was very pleased with the way his team played and was thrill to pick up win number 1 on the season.
OXBOW â€“ The Lake Region Lady Rangers suffered their first defeat of the 2011 campaign, as the Oxbow Olympians blanked them 4-0. The Blue and White gave up 4 first half goals and played from behind the entire game. Freshman Goaltender Jordan Cowles made the start in place of the injured Allie Hall. Hall is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain earlier in the week at practice. Coach Brad Urie remained optimistic after the defeat.
NEWPORT, VT - Baby Jonah Phoenix struggled for his life during his first year, but now he is healthy and is celebrating his first birthday today, September 22.
Jonah is the son of proud parents Lisa Higgins and Eric Matte.
Higgins is involved with the March of Dimes, a national, non-profit organization that supports mothers and babies.
Higgins said that March of Dimes advocates were very supportive when the family was going through a trying time.
She is also deeply grateful to the local pediatricians and Dartmouth doctors for the care they provided to her baby.
DERBY- The Vermont Electric Company (VELCO) submitted on Sept. 16 an application with the Public Service Board (PSB) to erect a telecommunications tower on Nelson Hill Road in Derby. The application was submitted under VSA 248a, which allows telecommunications towers to go directly to the PSB for approval while bypassing local zoning as well as Act 250 laws. The 21-day public comment period with the PSB is underway.
NEWPORT - Members of the Newport Peace and Justice Group, who can usually be found protesting Americaâ€™s involvement in war, joined protesters from around the world last night to voice their opposition to the execution of Georgia inmate Troy Davis.
