Local Store Kicks Off Campaign for Make-a-Wish

NEWPORT CITY – On Tuesday, Cumberland Farms on East Main Street in Newport kicked off a campaign that will donate 20 cents from each coffee and fountain beverage sold over the next 30 days to Make-a-Wish Vermont. The minimum donation will be $1,000.

NEWPORT CITY – A dispute over a fan lead to a heated argument in Brownington on Oct. 12, 2011. In Orleans District Court on Tuesday, Jennifer Eldridge, 31, of Orleans entered a plea of not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

Jay Peak Resort sees record breaking weekend

Sneak peak for new water park huge success
JAY- The new Pump House Water Park at Jay Peak opened three weeks ahead of schedule just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
“It was a banging weekend,” said JJ Toland, the communications director with the resort. Two thousand visitors turned out for the big weekend to check out the new water park, to ski, and ice skate. Some ski trails were open for the weekend, but have now closed due to the unseasonably warm weather.

Harry L. Burnham, 70, of Barton died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at North Country Hospital in Newport following a brief illness.
He was born in Barton, January 19, 1941, the son of George Burnham and Annie Stone Burnham. He was raised by his mother, Annie, and her husband Albert Mason. He attended school in Albany and served his country in the US Army.

Guay– Philippe William, 52, of Island Pond passed away November 27, 2011 in Burlington, VT. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at St. James Parish Hall in Island Pond with the Rev. Frank Connor celebrating a mass Christian burial. Interment will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond, Vt. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, locally family owned and operated.

Jeff Johansen, Newport, and his five year old daughter Briana were busy over Thanksgiving weekend. With their home encased in Christmas cheer, they have a good start to the holiday season. But it doesn’t stop there. Jeff said they have plans for more decorating.

Newport Kicks Off the Holiday Season

NEWPORT CITY – Main Street will be alive with holiday cheer this Saturday, as Newport kicks off the holiday season with its "Magic on Main" celebration.
First, deserving families will enjoy a complete holiday meal at the East Side Restaurant. The annual holiday dinner sponsored by Burlington Real Estate Developer and Newport native Tony Pomerleau is by invention only.
It's nice to have a day of entertaining and fun to keep everyone in the downtown area said Andy Cappello, director of The Newport Recreation Department.

Second Open House Planned for Lowell Mountain

The Lowell Mountain Occupiers are planning to hold a second Mountaintop Open House on Sunday, December 4.
The first open house held on November 13 was well attended with more than 90 participants.
Nearly all made the hike up to the ridge line.
Participants make the trip in groups depending on the pace they want to walk. The hike is about one mile on muddy, and in some places steep, terrain and takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to reach the top.
Participants from the first open house agreed that a second open house should take place.
