NEWPORT - Newport merchants are reporting positive news for the holiday shopping season. Some say they did about the same as last year, but others say sales were way up.
Jim McKimm with the Memphremagog Arts Collaborative (MAC) said business was up this season 60 percent over last year. âThe artists are very excited about it,â he added. The MAC stayed opened later hours in December leading up to Christmas and that decision was a good one, McKimm said, one that paid off with extra shoppers.
DERBY, VT - Well over 600 revelers from all over Orleans and northern Essex County participated in IROCâs 6th Annual New Yearâs Eve Bash with fun and games throughout the afternoon and evening. Mark Shelton and his Captain Radical Pirate Show highlighted the event.
We brought the arcade and the ping pong, pool, and air hockey tables down to the main floor and Wilsonâs Entertainment provided play without charge for the entire day and night. They were busy as were the bounce houses and the water slide.
WESTMORE - It was a splish-splashing good time as 71 brave souls stripped off their winter weather gear and took a brief dip in Willoughby Lake Sunday. Fred Laferriere of St. Johnsbury started the event nine years ago. Each participant was asked to pay a minimum $100 entry fee. Most people obtain sponsors. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
Two years ago, the swimmers teamed up with the St. Johnsbury Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
