NEWPORT - The Newport City Police were called to the Eastside Restaurant Thursday evening to stop protesters from disturbing North Country Hospitalâ€™s annual dinner meeting.
The protesters, who want Dr. Leslie Lockridge, the local oncologist, to keep his job, turned out for the meeting and planned to peacefully demonstrate with signs. The protesters waited on one side of the restaurant until 7 p.m., when the dinner was scheduled to be over and the official meeting was to start.
NEWPORT CITY â€“ A Newport man will serve 29 to 30 days, eight hours a day, for attempting to take a big game animal with the aid of a salt lick.
Tuesday, Jan 17, Michael Bickford, 31, of Newport, entered a plea of guilty to the misdemeanor charge.
Last Nov. 17, Bradley Mann, from the Fish and Wildlife Department, received information that someone saw Bickfordâ€™s vehicle parked several times at an entry to his grandfatherâ€™s property. The person who called Mann said that acquaintances saw Bickford carrying what they believed to be bait from his vehicle to the property.
JAYâ€“Down 2-1 at the end of the first period, the North Country girls, on the strength of some new line-up combinations, rallied to pick up the 5-4 win over Middlebury on Saturday night.
â€śI think offensively it gave us a little spark. We now have two lines that are working really well, it is not so much one line putting the puck in the net, we can spread it out,â€ť said Paul of his new units play on Saturday.
ORLEANS- The Lake Region Ranger boys have been in many close games this season. That experience paid off Friday night as LRU closed out visiting BFA, snapping an eight game losing streak.
Lake Region dominated the offensive glass in the fourth quarter with the game on the line. Junior forward Drew Gallup scored on three offensive put backs to keep the Bullets at bay.
In their second game in three days, it took 4 minutes of extra time and her first points of the game, but in the end Kylie Atwoodâ€™s 2 free throws with 45 seconds to go in overtime were enough to give her Lake Region Lady Rangers a thrilling 49-45 win over the Winooski Spartans Saturday afternoon.
