NEWPORT CITY – By Jan. 1, 2014, all states will need a Health Exchange program up and running. Sen. Vince Illuzzi (R-Orleans/Essex) of Derby spoke to business leaders at the North Country Career Center yesterday about the exchange.
The law came about when the individual and small group insurance market in America essentially collapsed, Illuzzi said. “If you did not have the opportunity to purchase insurance through a group, you were pretty much on your own."
ORLEANS - State Police reported that this vehicle, owned by Trevor Royer of Irasburg, was vandalized in the Park & Ride area on VT RT 5 in Orleans.
"Vandalized" is probably an understatement. The vehicle had been smashed, rammed, had the windows shot out of it, and was pushed over an embankment.
The incident occurred between 9 PM and 11:30 PM on Jan. 14. So far, this is the only vandalism incident in the area that has been reported to the Newport Daily Express.
MORGAN/HOLLAND, VT - The smaller schools in the district are looking at different options to handle rising costs and low student population.
E. Taylor Hatton School in Morgan has a student population of 33 for kindergarten through sixth grade.
The school's administration is concerned about meeting the students’ needs both socially as well as academically, said Interim Principal Miriam Benson.
For example, there is no technology teacher at the school.
JERICHO–Despite the limited amount of snow that we have received this winter, the North Country nordic teams have been able to compete in their last two races.
The first one up was the Mount Mansfield Pursuit.
The girls took home fourth place with an overall team score of 117.
Lindsay Cotnoir was the top finisher, coming in tied for twenty-fifth with Laura Andrews and Ellie Stone of CVU. CVU took home first place at the event.
Stephanie Watson was the only other Falcon in the top fifty, finishing fifty-first.
