NEWPORT, VT - There’s nothing like a warm fire on a cold winter night, right? Before you light that wood burning stove or fireplace, you had better make sure your chimney is clean.
Chimney fires, at least in Newport City, are not as much of a problem as they use to be. However, that may change as oil prices rise and more people start to burn wood.
DERBY - The name has changed slightly but the facility is back in business. Foxwood Horse Stables in Derby, now known as Trinity Equine at Foxwood, is providing winter options for horse lovers in Orleans County.
The operation has re-emerged as a cooperative run by three local horse enthusiasts: Julie Jacobs, Dawn Brainard and Lisa Spates.
The Foxwood facility has plenty of room to spare. It features a lighted indoor arena that measures 200 feet by 100 feet. Spacious stalls, even a heated viewing room bring area riders all the comforts of warmer weather even in the dead of winter.
NORTH TROY, VT - Starr’s Untied, a trucking company in North Troy owned by Senator Robert (Bobby) Starr and his son Eric Starr, has been ordered to shut down by the courts for failing to obtain workers compensation insurance, but that hasn't kept the family out of the trucking business.
NEWPORT CENTER, VT - The Newport Center Fire Department, Newport Ambulance Service and the Vermont State Police responded to a rollover just after 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
Todd Marsh of Newport Center was operating this 5520 John Deere when the vehicle went off the road on VT RT 100 in Newport Center, just past the Number 12 Road.
Marsh drove off the east side of the roadway, down an embankment, and into a field where the tractor flipped on its side.
JAY–What started out as a good night ended in heartbreak for the North Country girls hockey team as Brattleboro rallied from a three goal deficit to beat the Falcons 4-3 in overtime.
"You win some and you lose some, but we still played hard" said team captain Avery Parsons-Grayson on what she said to the team after the loss.
The first period was the highlight for the Falcons. Corrina Cota got things rolling for North Country when she took a Whitney Bernier shot block and sprinted in alone on the Colonel's goalie Lou Lou Terwilliger.
