West Rutland Edges Crusaders in 1-0 Heartbreaker

October 23, 2012

NEWPORT–The sight after the game of an exhausted Paul Samaan laying on the ground, inhaler in hand, summed up the effort that the UCA boys gave in their tough-luck 1-0 loss to West Rutland Tuesday afternoon in the opening round of the Division IV soccer play-offs.
"The boys gave everything they had today, but you still hate to lose a game like this 1-0," said coach Alyssa DeLaBruere.
UCA matched their opponents step for step, chance for chance, but in the end a squibbler that got past Chris DeLaBruere decided the contest.

MOOSE MADNESS

October 22, 2012

ISLAND POND, VT - It’s that time of year again. Moose madness has struck and hunters lucky enough to have won the lottery are out to bag the biggest beast they can.
The largest moose harvested so far this year weighed in at 834 pounds. The largest ever taken was slightly over 1,000 pounds. The largest cow taken so far was 619 pounds.
Pete Emerson of the Department of Fish & Wildlife said the state has finally gotten the moose population where it should be. The numbers are down as a result, with fewer permits issued at 385.
