NEWPORT â€“ Newport City and the Village of Derby Center went head-to-head in court Monday over a disputed water contract.
The trial began with opening remarks and quickly moved into testimony. By 4:30 p.m., a number of witnesses had not yet taken the stand and the trial is set to continue another day, as of yet when is unknown.
DERBY â€“ The Derby Townâ€™s Clerkâ€™s office is hopping with activity.
Election officials were busy counting ballots for the general election, and then a recount was requested in the Justice of the Peace Race. Today there is a special election for the town clerk and treasurer position; so more ballots to count.
Typically the Justice of the Peace race is a quiet one with just enough people seeking the positions, or sometimes not enough. But this year 15 people sought the 12 positions.
NEWPORT- Nearly one year ago, Dr. Leslie Lockridge, a local oncologist, was notified that he was losing his job at North Country Hospital. The termination caused uproar in the community; many of Lockridge's patients were upset when he was let go and rallied behind him.
But when the dust settled, Lockridge opened a private practice a few months later.
CAPE COD, MAâ€“The Vermont Shamrocks U-16 girlâ€™s team won the Cape Cod Classic this past weekend, beating a host of teams from the Northeast Region of the United States, including the U-19 Shamrock team from Vermont.
They opened the tournament with a win over the Connecticut Northern Lights, who according to sources, featured a coaching staff a parental group that were beyond awful in their demeanor.
Former Shamrock Salley Hoer said hello to her old teammates in game two as Vermont faced off against the Cranston Reds.
The green and white won the contest decisively 4-1.
