NEWPORT – The state is attempting to block testimony, evidence and witnesses that the Lowell protesters want to use as part of their defense at trial. The motion was filed Friday by Deputy State’s Attorney Sarah Baker just prior to a status conference.
Judge Robert Gerety Jr. and defense Attorney Kristina Michelsen both said they did not have enough time to review the motion prior to the status conference as they had just received it minutes before.
NEWPORT – Griff’s Pub announced on Facebook that it is closing its doors on Main Street in Newport Monday at midnight.
The Newport City Council did not renew the pub’s beer and wine license, which expires May 1.
Recent allegations of criminal activities inside the bar have led to charges and an investigation by the Vermont Department of Liquor Control. A woman alleges that she was raped in the bathroom of the bar and now a young man is facing charges in criminal court.
NEWPORT, VT - The audience got a double bill Sunday with musicals based on the past and the present.
North Country Union High School's Colton White, as Bill Gates, performed in "iMusical," a piece dedicated to the late Steve Jobs of Apple Computer. North Country students Chase Gosselin and Bailey Walker co-wrote the piece.
Steven Bellavance and Gabby Cogan were the lead characters in this weekend's performance of "Romeo and Juliet: Six very busy days."
Teacher Robert Wing wrote the short comedy skit version of Shakespeare's tragic love story.

NEWPORT–It was tough day to be a member of the Falcons on Thursday as both the baseball and softball teams had a rough go of it against BFA St. Albans.
On the softball diamond, the Comets scored one in the first, five in the second and would go on to add thirteen more runs in the final four innings to defeat the Falcons 19-3.
Despite the loss, coach Leslie Dunn was upbeat about the compete level of her team.
"I said to them in the sixth, 'this is going to be our final inning, so let's just go out and get one more run' and they got two, it was just awesome," she said.

Women’s Soccer-Tuesday Nights
The ladies from Belli Doni Pottery captured another Womens' League crown by defeating arch-rivals Fortin Transportation in the finals by a score of six to three. Belli Doni reached the finals by taking the number two seed overall and upending the women from Muenier Construction in the semi-finals. Fortin Transportation who took the regular season crown for the second straight session with 23 out of a possible 24 points took down upstart Balls-O-Fire in their semi-final match.

MORRISVILLE – The Lake Region Rangers took to the course for their first meet of the season at the Copley Country Club on Thursday afternoon. Matt Morin, last year’s Division 3 State Medalist, looks for another strong run in his senior campaign.
The opening meet of the season didn’t fare well for the Rangers however. Morin shot a 4 over 39 to pace the squad. Carl Oberg shot a 50, while Connor Gaboriault and Holden Poirier each placed with scores of 56.

Clarence James Ogilvie, 85, died peacefully at home in Parkton, Maryland on Friday, April 27, 2012. Clarence was born at home October 6, 1926 in Houston, Texas, the youngest child of Edwin Deady and Eulalia (Risley) Ogilvie.
