Martha Peck Steps Down from the Pulpit

NEWPORT, VT - Sunday, June 10, 2012, marked the last day of Rev. Martha Peck’s 23-year tenure at The United Church of Newport.
The church, situated on Third Street, ministers to the Newport area’s United Church of Christ and United Methodist Church populations.
Though she started with three co-ministers, Rev. Peck has been tending her flock solo for the past four years.

Morgan School Students Ready to Move On

MORGAN - It was a bitter-sweet day for Morgan students Friday, their last day of school. They were sad as the E. Taylor Hatton School is closing, but happy as many are looking forward to attending Derby Elementary School.
Morgan voters decided at the March Town Meeting to send the 34 kindergarten through sixth grade students to Derby rather than keeping the school open.
Principal Miriam Benson said the transition has gone smoothly and now it’s not that big of a deal. "We're all moving on and it’s good, but we’re all going to miss Morgan, of course.”

Thunder Trounce Littleton All-Stars 15-3 in Season Opener

On a beautiful sunshiny baseball Sunday afternoon in Littleton, NH, the Orleans County 12-U Thunder baseball team started their season with a convincing 15-3 victory over the Littleton NH 12-U All-Star team.
There were a lot of stars in this game with Parker Brown, T.J. Santaw, Hunter Marsh, Liam Kennedy and Derrick Breault on the mound.
The quintet gave up a mere 3 runs on 5 hits. There were a lot of great defensive plays in the game along with a lot of offense.
Along with the strong pitching and solid defense, several members of the Thunder had a productive day at the plate.

Junior High Girls’ Golf Program a Success

This past school year a North Country Junior High Girls Golf Club was created. Starting with an organizational meeting in November that was coordinated by John Gunn, physical education teacher at NCUJH, and Brian Hampton, the head varsity girls’ golf coach of North Country Union High School.
The duo discussed the program with a number of girls interested in starting the club. In the spring three girls, 7th graders Katie Goulet, Dehlia Wright, and Dasha Plotnikov, followed up on the initial meeting by joining the program.
