DERBY LINE – Government officials are considering taking more action to stop people from entering the United States and failing to report at the Derby Line, VT, Port of Entry.
Derby Line officials met with U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and General Services Administration (GSA) representatives near the U.S./Canadian border Friday and conducted a site visit – of sorts.
NEWPORT CITY – Cristopher Smith, the 27-year-old man who pulled a knife on a local news reporter, entered a guilty plea Friday to a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of engaging in a prohibited act. The state dismissed a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.
Smith, who appeared in court in chains and shackles, will have to wait a bit longer to hear his fate. Until then, he is lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield.
BROWNINGTON, VT – Cody Cole, 15, of Irasburg, died Saturday as the result of an accidental shooting with a muzzle loader.
Vermont State Troopers received a 911 call around 7 PM from a residence in Brownington that the teenager had been shot. Police responded to the scene with Orleans Ambulance. Cole was taken to North Country Hospital where he later died.
No official cause of death will be determined until an autopsy can be completed.
Lawson–– Theresa Agnes Gosselin, 84, of Newport Center, VT, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2012. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
