NEWPORT CITY â€“ In six years of existence, Numia Medical Technology has moved four times. The most recent move for the Northeast Kingdom-based company was to the former Vermont Teddy Bear Factory on Farrant Street in Newport.
MONTPELIER - Vince Illuzzi of Derby, who has served as Orleans/Essex County Senator for more than three decades, has decided to seek the office of Auditor for the State of Vermont.
Illuzzi, a Republican, is going up against Progressive/Democrat Doug Hoffer. Current Auditor Tom Salmon is not seeking re-election.
DERBY LINE - A meeting is scheduled to discuss the possibly of putting a gate at the U.S./Canadian border on Route 5 in Derby Line, and the idea is already generating mixed comments.
Apparently many people are still driving into the United States without checking in at U.S. Customs, and traffic is continuing to build up and create conflict. GSA (U.S. General Services Administration) reached out to Derby Line officials regarding a meeting to address the issue.
ORLEANSâ€“With darkness creeping across the night sky, Trey Azur crossed home plate for the eventually game winning run on a single by Jared Hussey to give the North Country Athletics the 3-2 win and the trophy for the Babe Ruth 14-U League Championship.
"I knew it was going to be a close game as both teams were so evenly matched," said A's coach Dennis Myrick.
All signs pointed to a classic match-up between the top two teams in the league. Lake Region had the advantage in the win column, and thusly were awarded home field for the championship game.
ST. JOHNSBURYâ€“On July 21st, sixteen boys and girls, ages 7-14, represented the Lake Region Summer Track and Field Program at the Vermont State Track and Field Meet in St. Johnsbury.
LR took home the First Place Small Town Award. The team ranked across all age groups and events. The finalists, events, and times are the following:

Ebony Cota (Discus Throw, 42-07, first place)
Jaden Hayes, Andrew Hicks, Quinn Snedeker, Seth Toscano
(4x100 Relay, 1:10.72, third place)
NEWPORT, VT - Several rounds of thunderstorms pushed hot weather away from northernÂ Vermont Monday, bringing in cooler temperatures for Tuesday.
â€śThere were several rounds of storms just across the North Country, one right after the other,â€ť said Andy Nash, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Burlington. â€śWe see these a few times each summer.â€ť
Some of the storms formed near Ottawa.
The storms produced strong winds and lightning that downed trees and power lines and caused power outages.
Golf ball sized hail hit some areas around Chittenden, Addison, and Orange Counties.Â
DERBY - Derby Town Clerk and Treasurer Nicole Daigle said Tuesday she is going to turn in her letter of resignation at the next select board meeting.
Daigle has accepted and is starting a new job and wants to focus her efforts on it.
DERBY - The atmosphere heated up only mildly at the Derby Select Board meeting Monday, perhaps due to the sheriff standing just outside the door but making his presence known. The weather outside complimented the mood perfectly with thunder rumblings heard in the distance â€“ audible but mild.
NEWPORTâ€“At 8:00 on Thursday morning former North Country football standouts Cody Collins and Adam Fortin will be on the campus of Dartmouth College.
That is when the two former Falcons and the rest of their Vermont teammates, led by coach Mike Norman of Rutland, will begin training for the 2012 Maple Shrine Bowl scheduled for Saturday August, 4th.
In anticipation of the final of game of these two linemen's high school career, I caught up with them to get their reaction to the upcoming game as well as talk a little bit about the 2011 football season.
