NEWPORT – The man accused of crushing six sheriffs’ cruisers and a transport van with a huge tractor was in court Friday.
Roger Pion, 34, sat in shackles and restraints in Orleans Superior Court next to attorney David Sleigh. Pion, held at Northern State Correction Facility in Newport, did not enter a plea but had to appear before a judge within 24-hours of his arrest.
He will enter a plea at his arraignment on Tuesday.
DERBY - Supporters "barked" 31,105 times!
Derby has come out on top, winning $25,000 for a dog park in the national Pet Safe “Bark for Your Park” contest.
Derby was running neck and neck with Mountain House, California, throughout the competition. When the leader board went dark a week ago, Derby was trailing by more than 1,000 votes. But dog park enthusiasts, led by Ann and Bob Kelley and their daughter Allison, worked nonstop to encourage people to vote.
NORTH TROY — Two Kingdom residents died in a car crash yesterday morning. Edmund Moran, 82, and Margaret Moran, 76, both of Jay, died as the result of a two-vehicle accident on RT 105 in North Troy.
Alexis Gabree, 26, of St. Albans, was driving a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer north on Route 105 when her vehicle apparently crossed the center line and hit an oncoming 2007 Honda Civic operated by Edmund Moran.

NEWPORT–The North Country Heat Invitational Baseball Tournament took place this weekend at Gardner Park and the home team did not disapoint, going 4-0 to win the event.
"The tournament went really well," said Heat Coach Mike LaCourse. "We got to see some new players that played with us that we may see next year at the high school. It was a good opportunity for the players to be in different roles and in a different environment."
