DERBY - The Michael Dunn legacy is fully coming to life.
Dunn passed away unexpectedly in 2007 and surprised everyone with his bequest: a generous public gift to both Vermont and Canada.
Dunn owned more than 800 acres around Lake Memphremagog, with approximately 400 acres on each side of the border. He left the land to both governments if they decided to accept the gift, which both did.
Friday, a public celebration and dedication of the Eagle Point Wildlife Management Area at Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge was held on the Dunn property.
NORTH TROY - Chaput Family Farms in North Troy has been named the 2012 Vermont Dairy Farm of the Year for its sound management practices, outstanding herd performance and strong commitment to agriculture. The award is presented annually to an exemplary dairy farm by University of Vermont (UVM) Extension and the Vermont Dairy Industry Association, in cooperation with the New England Green Pastures Program.
Harter–– Richard A., 81, a lifelong summer resident at Willoughby Lake in Westmore, VT, died March 12, 2012 in Hilton Head Island, SC from complications due to chemotherapy. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 18 at 1 p.m., at the Westmore Community Church in Westmore, VT. This will be followed by a military honor guard in the adjacent park and a reception.

LOWELL – Rescue crews spent a hot and humid Saturday rescuing an injured hiker on the Long Trail, finally carrying him to safety during a torrential downpour.
Lowell Assistant Fire Chief Calvin Allen identified the hiker only as Alfonso from the Montreal area. Allen didn’t know Alfonso’s last name and personnel from Missisquoi Valley Ambulance Service said they are not allowed to give the name.
The hiker sustained an ankle injury around 5 p.m. Friday and spent the night in his tent.
