It has been a busy summer at Dunlavey’s Black Belt Academy, owned and operated by 7th Don Master Rick Dunlavey – highest ranking Master in the Northeast Kingdom. More than 40 of his Tae Kwon Do students participated in the Derby 4th of July Parade. The float, provided and driven by Gosselin Water Wells, held a host of Dragons (mostly aged 3-6) while the Tigers, adult students and family members, marched alongside. The students wowed the crowd with Kibon One throughout the route. Later in July, the school moved to a new location at 292 Shattuck Hill Road in Derby.

Thought you were competing only in a Triathlon? Wrong. We had an open water swim going on and we had some very, very strong swimming going on in Lake Seymour.
We may not have had the wherewithal to recognize you at the Award Ceremony, (our woodal machine broke down and we didn’t have the times available yesterday afternoon). But all of you Aqua and Ollie and Swim Only participants were also in a swim competition (whether you knew it or not), and we are proud to announce the winners of the 3.5 mile Seymour Swim AND the 1.75 mile Seymour Swim.

LOWELL – A crowd of about 50 protesters engaged Green Mountain Power (GMP) workers and police on Lowell Mountain Monday morning. Six were eventually arrested.
Protesters were on the mountain around 5 a.m. and then walked out onto the crane path at about 6:45 when the first trucks were seen.
Construction trucks were held up for about four hours until police arrived. Most protesters chose to leave then, but not all did.
MONTPELIER, VT – A critical Green Mountains wildlife link has been protected on the Vermont border with Canada, The Trust for Public Land and partners announced Monday. Known as Jackson Valley, the 935-acre landscape near the Town of Jay is an ecological keystone that will connect to more than 22,000 acres of protected forestland in the United States and Canada. The property also buffers more than a mile of the Long Trail, the nation's oldest long-distance hiking trail.
NEWPORT - Roger Pion has a long history of run-ins with law enforcement dating back to 1998.
Several sources, including a law enforcement officer who asked not to be identified by name, said Pion has threatened police and the courts many times.
His record contains no felony convictions, however. His past charges are disorderly conduct, driving with a suspended license, and violating conditions of release. The Orleans Court only has available records dating back to 2008.

Wrongway Joe Kurtz finds his way to being the top Aquaman, Laurie Hugg Threepeats, Daniel Soucy and Michelle Patrick claim the Ollie, Johnny Appleseed a/k/a Speedy Petee and Kristen Skulte take the Sprint. The Fresh Corn by Lee and Crew, The Crazy Good Music by Reckless Breakfast, and the wonderful good spirit everywhere were OUTSTANDING. May 12, 1939- August 4, 2012
Robert M. Nelson, 73, died at his home in Albany in the care of his loving companion, Sadie Watters. He was born in Albany, May 12, 1939, the son of Maurice and Ethel “Jackie” (Shatney) Nelson.
He attended grade school in Albany and was a 1957 graduate of Craftsbury Academy. He served his country from 1959 to 1964 in the U.S. Army of which about 1 1/2 years in Bamburg, Germany.Â
