NEWPORT CITY â Judge Howard VanBenthuysen granted a Motion to Quash by Northeast Kingdom Human Services (NEKHS) in State v. Cristopher Smith yesterday. The order stopped attorney Trudy Miller from obtaining any additional mental health records of Smith, who is her client.
DERBY LINE â Comedic legend and Emmy-award winner Paula Poundstone is performing at the Haskell Opera House in Derby Line Sunday, Nov. 4, 7 p.m. The performance is the result of the efforts of film director, screenwriter, producer, and professor of Film Studies Jay Craven of Peacham; Lynn Leimer, the Haskell Opera House manager; and the Haskell Board of Trustees.
NEWPORTâWith only four seniors on the 2012 roster, North Country's girls soccer team will be fielding a crew made up of primarily 11 juniors, along with said seniors, 3 sophomores and 1 freshman.
"We are looking very good, said coach JoseÂ´Batista. "They've put in two weeks of hard training and I think that this being Peter and I's third year, it has given us a little more insight of what this league's all about and what our strength and weakness' of our program are."

Ruth M. Skinner, 90, a former resident of Irasburg, VT, passed away Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton.
Ruth was born in Barton, October 25, 1921, the daughter of Joseph and Fleda (Vinton) Racine. She was raised and attended grade school in West Charleston. On July 25, 1953, she married Myron Skinner in Lyndonville.Â They made their home in Irasburg where Ruth was active in and received her 50 year pin with the Indevale Chapter #61, Order of Eastern Star.Â
Carrier– Hedy L., 40, of Glover, VT, passed away suddenly on August 31, 2012, in Newport, VT. Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 12 Elm Street, Barton, VT, on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 4-6 p.m., where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012, with Brother Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Westlook Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, locally family owned and operated.
