CHUCK BERRY IN THE NEK

In a four-part series, Jay Craven recounts the concert that almost wasn’t – the famous Chuck Berry in the Northeast Kingdom.

I spent a recent evening at the Caledonia County Fair in Lyndonville and was reminded of a late summer concert I staged there, back when I ran Catamount Arts during the late '80s. The performer was Chuck Berry.

BRIGHTON, VT - The Select Board, town officials, interested parties, and John Soininen from Seneca Mountain Wind (SMW) met Tuesday evening to hash out the format for an October 3rd meeting for both sides to educate the public about commercial wind.
The meeting will be scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. and will start with 30-minute presentations from up to 12 panelists, half selected by Seneca Mountain Wind and the other half by the Brighton Ridge Protectors.

Parker Pie Comes to the Airport

COVENTRY – The owners of the famous Parker Pie Restaurant in West Glover are opening a second location at the Newport State Airport in Coventry.
Last winter, plans were outlined for expansion at the airport and opening a restaurant was one of the goals.
Dan Gauvin, owner of Lakeview Aviation said the restaurant will be an asset to the airport. The new restaurant space was a hangar and maintenance shed. Gauvin moved the maintenance shed to a larger building.
Parker Pie is renovating the inside of the building and the state is renovating the outside.

Solons Edge Falcons 1-0 in Tight Field Hockey Contest

NEWPORT–After dropping their season opener to Rice by the score of 4-0, the North Country field hockey team had a much better showing against Montpelier, even though they were bested by the Solons 1-0.
"I think they improved on everything," said coach Chantelle Bouchard. "Their spacing was good, their talking was good, and Danielle played a great game."
After the Falcons controlled the ball in the early minutes, the Solons started to find their groove.
Montpelier won the race to the scoreboard when they were able to make the best of a scoring opportunity off of a corner.

Ottomar "Tom" Emrich

Emrich–– Ottomar "Tom," 77, died at his home Sunday morning, September 2, 2012, after battling pancreatic cancer. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at St. Vincent De Paul's Parish, 18 North Pleasant Street, North Troy, VT, at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. with Reverend Roger Charbonneau and Reverend Ladislaus Mwelinde officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Tom Emrich Memorial fund at any local Peoples Bank branch.
