FAYE MORIN LOVES HER JOB

January 31, 2013

DERBY – Working for the Town of Derby is something that Faye Morin always wanted to do. She gave the town clerk’s office her resume several years ago and continued to check in with the hope of coming on board.
When former town clerk Nicole Daigle found a new job and resigned before her term was up, she brought in Morin and trained her in the positions of town clerk, town treasurer and school treasurer.
Morin says she is a “people person” and is well organized. So far she has worked on two elections and an audit and everything has gone smoothly.

IN A HEARTBEAT

BNEWPORT CITY – When a life is in the balance, having the right equipment at the right time can make all the difference. That's why Newport Ambulance Service (NAS) wants to add two Lucas CPR devices to its fleet. Jay Wood, division manager for NAS, said the service has been in the process of obtaining federal grants to purchase the equipment.
“They are machines that do CPR very, very efficiently,” said Wood. “That is the big thing now when we talk about cardiac arrest.”

JAY PEAK, Vt. - When some skiers started heading down the mountain to end their cold day, the mountain soldiers were just getting started. Alpha Troop, 1st Squadron, 172nd Cavalry Regiment tested their resiliency with cold weather and mountaineering training at Jay Peak, Vt., when the temperature was 0 degrees and steadily falling.
“We are the premiere mountain organization in the guard, so it’s one of our primary missions to operate in the mountainous terrain, especially in the cold weather environment,’’ said Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Progen, sergeant of the 1st Platoon.

Make it Three in a Row for the North Country Girls

January 31, 2013

JAY–North Country improved on their last performance against Stowe, adding an additional goal to their total, as they handed the Raider girls a 3-0 loss on Wednesday evening.
"I thought the first period was good as we set the pace. The second period, between all the penalties for both teams, I thought we never got into a rhythm, and in the third I thought we picked it back up," said NCU coach Claude Paul.
This is the second consecutive win over a team called the Raiders for North Country, as they disposed of the Rutland Red Raiders by an identical 3-0 score on Saturday.
