German Exchange Program: “It Has Been Fantastic”

NEWPORT CITY- In 1976 North Country Union High School (NCUHS) faculty member Tom Hunt started a student exchange program with a German high school. The school was located in Stuttgart in southern Germany, a large metropolitan area. While well conceived, the match didn't work for cultural reasons, namely the dialect was different from the German classes students were taking at NCUHS. Sue Gustafson-Byrne who organizes the exchange program said the difference is comparable to the dialect of a Vermonter versus someone from Alabama.

Tasting Center Packed For Opening

NEWPORT CITY–– The NEK Tasting Center had its official grand opening Friday and the response was obvious. The center, which houses five local businesses, was packed as delegates and state representatives made their statements joining in the good will the tasting center has generated.
