North Country Hospital Cited For VOSHA Violations

NEWPORT – North Country Hospital (NCH) was cited by the Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Administration (VOSHA) for numerous violations; some which are considered serious. The hospital is facing up to $42,000 in fines.
NCH became aware of the problems just days before the VOSHA inspection and immediately took action. Hospital officials are in constant communication with VOSHA to work on addressing the issues. The hospital may contest some of the alleged violations.

Supreme Court Split On Lowell Six: Upholds Lower Court Verdict On Wind Turbine Trespassers

LOWELL – In a split decision the Vermont Supreme Court upheld a decision by an Orleans County jury on the Lowell Six. The courts put more weight on legal possession rather than true ownership. However, one justice, John Dooley, the lone dissenter, said that true possession was not actually proved in this case.

OCSU Superintendent Search Continues

BARTON- The search for a new Orleans Central Supervisory Union superintendent is in the formative stage, with a search committee being formed and a goal of starting to advertise for the position to begin by December 1. Lake Region Union High School board chairman Dave Blodgett advised board members that there has been discussion over salary range, the hiring process, and who would be appointed to the search committee.
“We’ve set a salary range of $95,000 to $105,000.” said Blodgett. “The question is whether it’s enough or not.”

LR Portion Of Career Center Budget Level

BARTON- Lake Region Union High School school board member Mike Sanville reported good financial news Thursday night when he told the board there will be no increase in their portion of the North Country Career Center budget.
The proposed budget for the next fiscal year is approximately $3,376,000. Career Center Director Eileen Illuzzi is considering adding a half-time faculty position in the field of aviation. Interested students will be connected with the Coventry Airport upgrades which include manufacturing and repairing airplanes.

Jay Peak Opening This Weekend

JAY – Jay Peak Resort originally planned to open for its ski and ride 2013-2014 season on Thanksgiving, but that plan has changed.
Mother Nature has been cold lately, and blanketing the mountain with the white stuff die-hard winter sports enthusiasts have been longing for. The resort has been busy making snow as well, to establish the right cover. These combined efforts will present an early opportunity for those who can’t wait to start skiing and riding. Jay Peak Resort will open this Saturday and Sunday, a week earlier that anticipated.
