NEWPORT CITY - A Newport City man will serve two concurrent 5-10 year prison sentences plus a current 6-12 month prison sentence following a Newport City assault in which the victim was bashed in the head with a frying pan.

DERBY CENTER - The face of education is changing, Superintendent Dr. Robert Kern told members of the North Country Union Junior High School Board recently, as they discussed the possibility of a middle school on the west side of the supervisory district. “The issue of equitable education is being addressed and may at some point be mandated,” he said.
“If a middle school is built on the west side, we are considering including grades six through eight; that will free space at the elementary schools for pre-kindergarten programs, which the state may someday mandate.”

Burlington Tops North Country on Senior Night

NEWPORT–North Country and Burlington went at it tooth and nail for the first one and a half quarters of the Falcons game on Tuesday night before the Seahorses' found that extra gear and pulled away for the 46-33 win.
"Momentum in the game of basketball is everything," said NCU coach Christiane Brown. "We came out to play, but again, momentum is big, and we need to put four quarters together and not let down, even if something good goes for them, because that is how basketball works."
