DERBY LINE, VT - Authorities continue to investigate the bombings that occurred Monday during the Boston Marathon and are actively seeking suspects.
In Vermont, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are stopping all north-bound vehicles for inspection while helicopters buzzed Derby Line Village close enough to kick up dirt along the driveways. When asked if this activity is in response to the bombing in Boston, an agent on the scene replied, "Yes."

NEWPORT CITY - Monday, the Newport City Council decided to provide $2,000 in financial assistance to the Indoor Recreation of Orleans County (IROC) event known as the Kingdom Swim, even though Community National Bank foreclosed on the organization's building in Derby. Phil White, executive director of the organization, jokingly called IROC "Outdoor Recreation of Orleans County."

DERBY TOWN BOARD BACKS VILLAGE WATER PROJECT

April 16, 2013

DERBY, VT – The Derby Line Trustees along with Water Commissioner Gilles Blais joined the Derby Town Select Board at the table Monday night to present an update of the water line infrastructure project and ask if the town is willing to assist.
Trustee Keith Beadle said the Agency of Natural Resources had told him that the water line is in violation of its permit and the state agency has given the village until the end of 2014 to take action. The current situation could impact insurance protection rates, some pointed out, as water pressure is critically low for fighting fires.
