LOWELL – The Richardson family of Lowell is lucky to be alive. Angel and Brian Richardson were traveling in separate vehicles on the Mines Road in Lowell just before 3 a.m. Saturday when they and their cars suddenly ended up in a large hole. After they had climbed out, water and rocks showered down on their stranded vehicles and the hole got a lot deeper.
Angel didn't see the washout due to the rain and darkness and drove into the hole. The car stopped in an uncontrolled position at the bottom. Alex Richardson, 16, was riding with Angel.
MORGAN – In 1991, the directors of Vermont Fish and Wildlife Conservation Group successfully negotiated with the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department to rebuild the Morgan Fish Hatchery, which had been abandoned. After volunteers rebuilt the hatchery, the first brook trout fingerlings were transported to beaver ponds through local Boy and Girl Scout troops in April 1993.
Over the past 20 years, an average of 120,000 fingerlings have been distributed to waters in the Northeast Kingdom with the help of dozens of volunteers.
NEWPORT – From cell phones to searches, the North Country Supervisory Union makes the rules that affect our children.
Reviewing school policies may sound like tedious work, but the North Country Supervisory Union's policy committee is mandated by the state to review policies annually. “We've tried to narrow the number of policies to thirteen,” said superintendent Dr. Robert Kern. “They will appear in the student handbook so parents will know what the policies are.”
