FROM SWIMWEAR TO HARDWARE

DERBY – The owners of Sticks and Stuff, a retail home center and building supplies company, have applied for a permit with the Town of Derby. The owners bought the former IROC building on the Quarry Road a few weeks ago but they have remained quiet on their plans.

YOUNG AND GREEN

NEWPORT CITY – In an effort to promote green energy, individuals involved with the Climate Summer Movement have been touring the greater Newport area this week. Climate Summer is a program with the Better Future Project in Cambridge, MA. The project works to build the climate action movement. The group in Newport consists of a half dozen young adults who want to talk to people about a future free of fossil fuels.

FEEDING THE CHILDREN

DERBY CENTER – The North Country Union Junior High School board focused on several food related issues at a recent meeting, including the district wide policy on handling delinquent payments for school lunches and concerns about the quality of the meals being served.
