WEST CHARLESTON – Nov. 6, 2008, doctors gave Mariah Bowman a three percent chance of survival.
Mariah has Dermatomysitis. The Mayo Clinic defines the disease as an uncommon inflammatory disease marked by muscle weakness and a distinctive skin rash.
Mariah is throwing a dance for her family, friends, supporters, doctors and others at the Derby Elks Club Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. The party is free, but the Bowman family is holding a raffle with prizes valued at more than $3,000. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit Make-a-Wish Vermont.
NEWPORT CITY – Have a hankering for a traditional Thanksgiving meal? Good news, you don't need to wait until November and you don't need to prepare it yourself. Just make your way Brenda's Homestyle Cookin' Restaurant at 125 Main Street Thursday evening. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Newport City Fire Department.
