JAY PEAK KEEPS GROWING

August 25, 2013

JAY, VT – The rapid fire construction and development continues at Jay Peak Resort.
The new 85 room hotel on stateside has risen and will be open for guests by Christmas this year. The ticket price on the hotel – with a new base lodge, restaurant, retail space, and rental center – is $23 million paid for with EB-5 foreign investment money. The new project is on top of about $200 million in other new development at the resort, including the indoor water park, ice arena, and other hotels, a conference center, and lodging options.

THUNDER IN THE NEK

ORLEANS - The roar of motorcycles filled the air Saturday as about 30 bikers rode through as part of Kingdom Thunder. United Motorcyclists of Vermont sponsored the event. Kingdom Thunder started four years ago to benefit Indoor Recreation of Orleans County. Now that the facility no longer exists, proceeds benefit the Orleans-Essex Visiting Nurses Association (OEVNA).

March–– Herbert "Bud" Charles, 67, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away, Wednesday, August 14, 2013, after 11 months of being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

KATIE’S RIDE ROLLS ON

DERBY – Motorcycle riders keep the date of Sunday, Sept. 8 open. That's the date of the sixth annual Katie Grace Kelley Ride, which starts at noon at Hellbilly Hideaway in Derby. Michelle Kelley and her son Michael Kelley started the ride six years ago to benefit the family of Katie Grace Kelley. At the time, Katie had leukemia and required frequent trips out of the area for medical treatment.

THANKSGIVING IN AUGUST FUNDRAISER

Brenda's Homestyle Cookin' created a traditional Thanksgiving dinner Thursday. Proceeds will benefit Newport City Fire Department members and their families when special needs arise. Similar events will be held to fund other causes.

NEWPORT – The front end of a car received some serious damage in a two-vehicle crash Thursday. The crash occurred on East Main Street near the Newport Industrial Park around 5 p.m. The second vehicle, a truck, appeared to have minor damage. No officials details were available at press time.

Football Falcons Look to Turn the Page With New Season

NEWPORT–2013 is new year and a fresh slate for the North Country football Falcons.
Any thoughts of the 2012 football season, a season where the team went winless, have been banished to the garbage bin.
Instead of thinking about last year's campaign, the team, along with their coaching staff, is leaving the past in the past and are moving forward with a real feeling of positivity and good will.
