BORDER UPGRADES COULD TAKE 4 YEARS

DERBY LINE - Derby Line officials get together regularly for private meetings with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to discuss issues in the community, however those meetings are not open for the public per CBP request. One trustee at a time meets in order to avoid a quorum. Derby Line Trustee Chairman Keith Beadle met with CBP last Wednesday. The discussion centered around the port of entry on Interstate 91 in Derby Line.

BIKING FOR BRENTON

DERBY - Seven motorcycles left the Hellbilly Hideaway Sunday afternoon for a very important mission - to raise money for the Katie Grace Kelley Ride.
Michelle Kelley and her son Michael Kelley started the ride six years ago to benefit the family of Michelle's niece, Katie Grace Kelley. At the time, Katie had leukemia and required frequent trips out of town for medical treatments. Katie is better, but the ride continues to roll on.

MANHUNT

NEWPORT City - The Emory Hebard State Office Building went into lockdown yesterday after police responded to a report of a man making threats to kill a police officer. Newport City Police and the Orleans County Sheriff's Department responded to the Emory Hebard State Office Building just before 3:30 p.m. after they received a call that Eric Snyder, 49, of Westfield, was making threats outside the Department of Motor Vehicles office.

OUT OF THE DARKNESS

NEWPORT CITY – Each year, tens of thousands of people lose their lives to suicide. Saturday morning, over 100 people gathered in Gardner Park for the annual Out of the Darkness Walk, sponsored by The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
The purpose of the walk is to bring light to the issue of suicide, said Mary Butler. Butler spoke about her trip to Newport Saturday morning and seeing the sunlight in the night sky.

LOUIS GARNEAU LAYS FOUNDATION

DERBY – Construction on the Louis Garneau facility on the Derby Road is underway.
Company officials announced in July that they planned to build a larger facility in Derby. Louis Garneau’s U.S. headquarters will remain in Newport before the big move to Derby.

Vikings Hold Off Late Falcon Surge, Win 47-22

LYNDON-The Lyndon Institute Vikings scored there first touchdown less than three minutes into the first quarter and never looked back, picking up a 47-22 win over the North Country Falcons.
"I think we didn’t give up, we got twenty-two points, and we are making progress,” said NCU coach Tim Simoneau.
