Lasher–– Patrick O., 54, of Morgan passed away on March 9, 2013 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, after a valiant fight against Pancreatic Cancer.

April 2nd
NEWPORT CITY – In an effort to save the so-called Red Barn on Coventry Street from destruction, the city council decided Monday evening to give local resident Frank Knoll, of Northern Views LLC, more time to find another use and location for the structure.
The city owns the barn and has offered to let Knoll take it, if he can move it.
Newport City can't do anything with the barn because of it's location in the city's wellhead protection area and the city has no use for it.

JAY – Jay Peak Resort is getting ready to take down one of its last old buildings and replace it with larger, more modern structures.
The Stateside Chalet is slated to come down. In its place will go a 67,000 square foot hotel with 84 rooms, along with a restaurant and a  22,000 square foot day lodge with ski and rider services including a new rental shop. The development footprint will span from the current stateside chalet location to the ski patrol building.
BARTON – A blaze destroyed a sugarhouse on the East Albany Road last evening.
Firefighters responded around 5:40 p.m. to a fully engulfed building fire. By the time they arrived on the scene, 13-minutes later, the building was already flat, said Fire Chief David Claeys.

MONTREAL, QC–Five different North Country Falcons (Ross DeLaBruere, Ryan Paul, Chase LaCourse, Adam Viens, Quinn Nelson) suited up for the Black Ice Black midget select team a few weekends ago, and along with the rest of the team, went undefeated in tournament play, coming back across the border with the championship trophy and individual gold medals.

HOLLAND – Students learned about one of the Northeast Kingdom's sweet traditions Monday – how people make maple syrup.
Albert and Berthe Patenaude of Valley View Maple Products opened their sugar house to 180 first, second, and third grade students from the Newport City School.
Over the past few weeks, Holland Elementary School students visited the Patenaude's operation.
Monday's tours, directed by Green Mountain Farm-to-School, were designed to give the children a larger picture of Vermont's culture, Caitlin Loren of Green Mountain Farm-to-School said.
JAY - The development at Jay Peak Resort is causing a surge in traffic and Vermont Route 242 is crumbling beneath it.
The Orleans County side of the mountain is not going to be paved this summer. The state will work on the Montgomery side. But the state is going to repair several deteriorating culverts alongside the road, said Dale Perron with VTrans District 9 in Derby.
