Skate Park Is Now Open

Saturday, there was a grand opening for the new skate park in Gardner Park in Newport. In attendance for the grand opening were from left to right: Kathy Metras of NEKCA, Andy Cappello of Newport Parks & Recreation, Ira Morgan of Hellbilly Hideaway, and Michael Parker of Parker Construction.

Morgan Residents Consider Turning Points

MORGAN- Forty residents in Morgan attended a public meeting for a presentation to consider whether to lease or sell the elementary school to Turning Points Alternative Education Program (AEP). Dwindling enrollment forced the town to tuition the students to Derby Elementary School last year. The school sits idle and residents are seeking different options to make use of the facility.

Urie Sets New School Scoring Record in Win Over Danville

ORLEANS–When fans came to the Ranger Field on Saturday morning for the Lake Region girls soccer team's game against Danville, they could feel a buzz in the air.
Maybe it was the electricity that accompanies homecoming weekend, or perhaps it was the beautiful autumn day.
But more than likely it was the fact that they had to chance to witness history being made, and that is exactly what they saw, as Tyrah Urie scored goals number 56 and 57 to break Richie Hackett's all-time goal scoring record.

ORLEANS–Alex Beauregard's 17th goal of the season helped secure a tie for Lake Region as they hosted Danville on Saturday afternoon in the second half of the homecoming soccer doubleheader.
Danville jumped out to the lead six minutes into the first half.
The Indians had been pressuring early, and their persistence was rewarded when Jason Sweet connected with Gabe Farr for the early tally.
Danville kept the pressure on after the goal, but Lake Region slowly started to get their game going.

Mammograms Saves Lives

So it seems there is some confusion about at what age you need to start getting mammograms. Every major medical organization with expertise in breast cancer now recommends that women start getting annual mammograms at age 40. Yet, millions of women remain confused about when to be screened. Many forego annual mammograms and increase their risk of dying unnecessarily from breast cancer.

DERBY-What a day at the races!
The long awaited home meet finally arrived with a picturesque day and great fan support.
Thank you to all that came out to watch, and especially to those of you who came out to work.
Without those volunteers (especially the timing crew!) this would not have come off so well.
In cross country, we don’t have the luxury that every other sport has where the coach shows up to the prepped field with officials waiting and just coaches.

Beauregard Fires in Four Goals To Pace Rangers 4-2

ORLEANS-The Lake Region Rangers moved to 8-2-1 on the year after a 4-2 win over visiting Enosburg. Senior striker Alex Beauregard netted 4 goals, two in each half to power the Ranger offense.
Lake Region took an early 2-0 lead before a couple defensive breakdowns let the Hornets back in the game. Cam Cafori and Zack Dixon-Smith tallied for Enosburg forging a 2 all deadlock at the halftime horn.
The Rangers slugged it out in the middle of the field as each club looked for the go ahead score midway through the second half.
