ARREST IN ALBANY ARSON

NEWPORT – Elmer “Jim” Joerg, a volunteer firefighter for Albany, is being held on $250,000 bail at Northern State Correctional Facility in connection with the fire at the Albany Fire Station.

FAIR RAFFLE FOR ALBANY FD

August 15, 2013

BARTON – In an impromptu decision yesterday, the Northeast International Mutual Aid decided to hold a raffle at the Orleans County Fair this week. Firefighters will draw the winning name for the raffle – a woodcarving done during a Masters of the Chainsaw Show – during the Demolition Derby Sunday, the last day of the fair.

CRAFTSBURY – Dr. Don Harris, of Harris Integrated Health and Nutrition, is not your average medical professional. He is a chiropractor who can order tests, diagnose sickness, and get reimbursements from third party payments from insurance providers. He treats medical problems by other means than pharmaceuticals.
But he has no waiting room, no exam room, and no office. Instead, he takes his chiropractic and nutritional services to his patients' homes.

ECONOMY IN TRANSITION

NEWPORT CITY – Rep. Peter Welch made a whirlwind stop in downtown Newport Wednesday. During an interview at the Northeast Kingdom Tasting Center, Welch said he came to Newport because he wanted to see what was going on. The congressman was pleased to see many positive retail and dining experiences in the Main Street area as well as to learn about the proposed development with Bill Stenger. "There is a lot of good activity here."

PREEMIE THRIVES ON MOM’S MILK

NEWPORT – Nine months ago, Dawn Philip and Stephen Klemchuk were expecting a child.
Dawn was just over half way through her pregnancy and at week 25, 15 weeks prior to the due date, her water broke. Dawn went to North Country Hospital and was sent by ambulance to Dartmouth Medical Center in Hanover, NH, as North Country Hospital was unable to care for very premature babies.

Marsh–– Slayton Robert, 85, a nearly life-long member of the Brownington Village community, and most recently of Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, passed away on August 12, 2013 in Newport, VT.
