SCOUT EXEC EXPLAINS GAY SCOUTING DECISION

The Boy Scouts of America has reversed years of policy to allow gay scouts to enter the program, but the organization still does not allow gay scout leaders. HELD WITHOUT BAIL

Peter Lavalette was stopped for drunk driving in Indiana, and before the deputy sheriff could book him, he apparently confessed to killing a man in Westfield. MURDER SUSPECT RETURNS TO VT

A Derby man wanted in connection with a recent Westfield, VT, murder is getting a free ride home from Indiana, thanks to the Vermont State Police. HOSPITAL CUTS STAFF

North Country Hospital has announced that it is cutting 19 positions, reducing hours for some employees and closing two clinical services, due to financial difficulties. Alex Giroux is the Kingdom’s Quiet Champion

NEWPORT–Alex Giroux is a good golfer.
Actually, Alex Giroux is a very good golfer, but you would never know that if you sat down to talk with him.
The soft-spoken fourteen year-old from Derby is one of the best young golfers in the state of Vermont, and he has back-to-back Vermont State Junior Stroke Play Championships to prove it.
But he was so quiet about it, even the Newport Country Club's Head Pro Kim O'Neil didn't know he had won in 2011 until the 2012 tournament.
But you don't just up and win titles, not in this game.
