LIQUID GOLD: Maple Smith Keeps Boiling

March 11, 2013

IRASBURG – It's the perfect scenario for creating maple syrup. Cold nights in the twenties backed by warm days in the forties.
That recipe for success is letting local maple syrup producers get out and make one of the world's best foods: Vermont maple syrup. The Smith brothers in Irasburg have been busy doing just that.

GUTTERSON BOUND!

March 10, 2013

JAY – Savannah Alberghini-Giroux's goal nine minutes and fifteen seconds into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the North Country girls earned a trip to the Gutterson Field House to take on Harwood for the Division II state championship on Tuesday evening.
Falcon coach Claude Paul is excited about the win but believes his team has another gear that they can shift up to.
"I think we can step up and play even better," he said. "We were taken aback a bit by Middleburry's speed and their quick transition game."

Hurricanes Send Lady Rangers Home in D II Quarter-finals

March 10, 2013

WHITE RIVER–Hartford got off to an 11-0 start in the first, and although Lake Region would battle back, making it 26-26 in third, the Hurricanes were just too strong, as they cruised to the 60-39 quarter-final win.
"They played tough defense, and as much as we tried to prepare the girls for it, we struggled early in the game before settling down," said LRU coach Mark Tinker. "Hopefully it is a good learning experience for the ones coming back, and an unfortunate ending for the ones that are graduating."

Falcon Girls Headed to the Finals, Boys Lose in Triple OT

March 9, 2013

The good news is that at least one team will make an appearance at the Gutterson Field House, as the girls won their semi-final game against Middlebury.
For the boys, they fell just short in their journey to the finals, losing a heartfelt game in triple overtime to South Burlington.
