NEWPORT–Fans of the North Country girls hockey team who expected to see the team make another run at the Division II state title will have to adjust their plans, as the Falcons will not be in the running in DII.
They will be in Division I.
North Country coach Claude Paul confirmed the decision on Wednesday when we spoke at the track meet.
To say Paul was less than thrilled is an understatement, although he didn't have time for a quote.
Harwood and Rutland will also be making the jump to DI, while Hartford and Burr & Burton are heading down to DII.

NEWPORT–North Country and Lake Region, along with Spaulding and Enosburg, got together on Wednesday afternoon for the third and final track and field meet at North Country Union High School.
The meet served as a showcase for some of the finer local talent that is currently competing on the track and in the field.

LYNDON-After three innings of Tuesday’s Lyndon-Lake Region high school softball game, it looked like the Vikings would easily cruise to their 12th victory of the season.
By the 7th inning, that outcome wasn’t quite so obvious.
After falling behind 6-0 after the first three innings, a scrappy Lake Region club scratched and clawed their way back to within a 9-5 deficit, and had loaded the bases with the tying run at the plate in the 7th, before finally succumbing to their powerful D2 foes in Lyndon.
