St. Johnsbury Edges Falcons Out in Low Scoring Affair

NEWPORT-The first time the North Country Falcons and the St. Johnsbury Hilltoppers met, it was a very one sided contest, with St. J winning 61-25.
In this game it was a much close affair, but sadly for the NCU crowd, North Country fell again, this time by the score of 38-18.

Health Care Deadline Nears — Those Not Covered Penalized

The time when everyone must be covered by health insurance is drawing near. The deadline was expanded by three months and is now April 1. To meet that deadline applicants must apply by March 15. Those who are not covered by health insurance will have to pay steep fines.

Accident On Western Avenue Thursday Afternoon

After several requests before deadline, the Newport City Police Department did not provide any information about this accident at the intersection of Western Avenue and the Access Road at about 1 p.m. Thursday. There are no details on the drivers, injuries or what caused the accident. The Newport City Police Department, the Newport City Fire Department, and the Newport Ambulance Service responded. Junior High Board Hits Road To Explain Bond Request

DERBY CENTER- The junior high school’s Building Committee met Thursday, January 30 to map out an aggressive schedule to visit every town that sends students to the school. The voters rejected a bond request of $1.9 million for infrastructure improvements to the school on January 21.

Ice Structures Center Point Of Winter Carnival

NEWPORT CITY - Area residents are gearing up for the annual winter carnival Saturday.
The Newport Recreation sponsors the event that’s now close to 30 years old. This year recreation department staff and volunteers are bringing back at ice castle - sort of.

Paul’s Hat Trick Fuels Falcons’ Comeback Against Spaulding

JAY–Trailing 3-0 after one period of play, the North Country Falcons, led by their captain Ryan Paul's hat trick, clawed their way back to tie, then eventually defeat the Spaulding Crimson Tide on Wednesday night at the Jay Peak Ice Haus.
"This was huge," Paul said about the win. "We have not come back from any deficit this year to win a game, and I think it shows the character and heart that we have. We just need to put it out there every night."
Dana Marsh stopped 27 shots for the Falcons, who move to 8-6-1, while Ben Ferland had 14 saves for 2-8-4 Spaulding.
