Border Survey Helps Canada Understand Foreign Spending

DERBY LINE - Anyone crossing into Canada from the United States last Saturday may have received a survey from Canadian border officers.
Statistics Canada conducts the international travel survey to determine the amount of money Canadians spend in other countries and the amount foreign travelers, including Americans, spend in Canada.

Arsonist Avoids Prison Following Conviction

NEWPORT CITY – A Barton woman who pleaded guilty to burning down a camp owned by a police informant after her boyfriend and his brother were arrested in a drug bust was issued a three-year deferred sentence Tuesday for first degree arson.

Chargers Overcome Slow Start, Best Hornets 52-38

CRAFTSBURY–After a slow first half that saw the Craftsbury Chargers and the Whitcomb Hornets combine for a total of thirty-four points, the two teams ramped it up in the second half with the Chargers gaining the upper hand and coming away with the 52-38 win.
"We were very sluggish from the start," said Craftsbury coach Derek Cipriano. "The boys saw (Whitcomb's) record and thought they were going to come in this game and roll over them, but I knew that wasn't going to be the case. (Whitcomb) is a hard working bunch and they created some mismatches for us with their speed."

Hilltoppers Use Long Ball to Subdue Falcons

NEWPORT-The Saint Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers used a high percentage outside attack and a balanced inside game as they captured their ninth straight victory this winter over the North Country falcons by an 84-46 final.
North Country was coached by JV head man George Azur, as well as varsity assistants Mike Gonyaw and Ian Dinzeo, as Ed Duncan sat out the second contest of his two-games due to suspension.
A suspension, according to locals who saw the contest, was unjust at best.

Neighbor Sues First Wind Over Sheffield Wind Project

SHEFFIELD – Paul Brouha’s parents fled Germany during the WWII era and settled in Vermont for the peace, tranquility, natural beauty and quiet enjoyment it offered. When Brouha was born he was brought to the Sutton home he continues to live in to this day.

Brouha has filed suit in Caledonia Superior Court against Vermont Wind, Northeast Wind Partners II, and First Wind Holdings over the Sheffield Wind Project.

Dunklees Set for Olympic Adventure

BARTON–"Skiing has been a part of her soul since before she could walk."
Those were the words Judy Robatille-Dunklee used to describe her daughter, United States Olympic Biathlete Susan Dunklee's passion for her sport.
Now of course the Biathlon combines both skiing and target shooting, and we will get to the shooting part later, but the first part, skiing, has long been a tradition in the Dunklee household.

Bohannon Eclipse’s 1,000 Point Marker in Lady Charger Win

CRAFTSBURY–Entering Monday night's game against the Richford Rockets, Craftsbury's Janet Bohannon needed just three points to reach the 1,000 career point plateau.
She wasted little time getting there, firing home a three pointer ten seconds into the contest, drawing a thunderous ovation from the packed Craftsbury Gymnasium.
"I didn't think it was going in. When I got the ball I thought 'here's my chance.,'" said Bohannon after the game. "Coach and I had talked about shooting the three at the start of the game, and it just happened just like that.
