Lake Region Baseball Shuts-Out Enosburg 10-0

May 22, 2014

ORLEANS-Lake Region’s varsity baseball squad defeated Enosburg 10-0 Thursday night as pitcher Matt Messier dominated from the mound.
The game started beneath a black sky, both teams soaked minutes into their warm-ups.
Lake Region made it clear that a little moisture wouldn’t affect their game.
“We practice in the rain,” said head coach Eric Degre after the game. “We don’t stop unless it’s absolutely pouring.”

In Derby: Walmart Submits Application For Site Plan Approval

The long-awaited development plans for a Walmart Supercenter in the local area is now one step closer to reality. Walmart has submitted an application with the Town of Derby to build a super center. On Thursday Zoning Administrator Bob Kelley received a book of extensive information on Walmart’s plans and the results of all their studies, and multiple drawings from the engineer.

NCUHS Students View Mock Crash Before Prom

NEWPORT CITY – Just in time for their prom Friday evening, North Country Union High School students gathered outside the front of the school Thursday morning to watch a mock fatal car crash on Veteran’s Ave.

NCUHS: Educator Proposes Bringing Chinese Students

NEWPORT CITY - Longtime educator Brad Ashley, who has taught or administrated at Blue Mountain Academy, St. Johnsbury Academy, and Foxcroft Academy (in Maine), met with the North Country Union High School board on Tuesday night. The CEO of Kingdom Development Company, Ashley would like the board to consider allowing 20 Chinese students to enroll at the school.

Troy School: Board Plans Underfunded Renovation

“The second bond vote went down, any thoughts?” queried Troy school board Chairman Carol Currier at a meeting Tuesday evening.
Addressing board members and administrators regarding how to make needed school renovations without enough money, Currier suggested the next step is to see what projects can be cut.

Montpelier Boys Edge Out North Country 4-3

NEWPORT-Wednesday was a bittersweet day for North Country tennis coach Gary Atchinson, as he coached in what will likely be his final home game of his 14 year career as the North Country boys tennis coach as his team took on the Montpelier Solons.
Said Atchinson about the moment, "I have been here forty-four years teaching some kind of tennis... We said it was the last match for the seniors and the last match for me as well and it was very significant.
"There is no doubt I will miss it, but it just feels like it's time to move on."

Newport Woman Named WCAX’s Super Senior

Drive up Newport’s Main Street on just about any day, and sometimes well into the evening, you are likely to see Micheline Auger of Newport volunteering her time beautifying the city.

If you drove up Main Street Tuesday morning you might have seen a different sight – Micheline being interviewed in front of the police station by Joe Carroll of WCAX-TV of South Burlington.
