Lake Region Continues to Roll, Run Over Spartans 6-2

October 4, 2014

ORLEANS–The Lake Region boys welcomed in the Winooski Spartans on Friday for a little afternoon high school soccer.
With the fall foliage in full bloom behind them, the Rangers quick ball movement, and over all smart play, systematically dissected the Spartans en route to a 6-2 win.
"It was a good match," said LR coach Tom Evans about his overall thought on on the game..
Things were close in the opening minutes of the contest.
The Spartans' players were a quick moving bunch in their own right, and it took the Rangers a little while to adapt to the Winooski brand of soccer.

The last time the girls took the field at their home campus was on on the 11th of September against Lyndon, a game which they won.
After a tough 1-0 loss against Spaulding this past weekend, a little home cooking was just the tonic that the team needed to get back to their winning ways, as they rallied back from an early 1-0 deficit, scoring five unanswered goals on their way to a 5-1 victory.

Free Kicks, Set Plays Doom Falcons Against St. J

October 1, 2014

NEWPORT–On Wednesday afternoon it was the North Country boys soccer team's turn to take on the St. Johnsbury Hilltoppers, as they hosted the green and white in a matinee match-up.
The Falcons played an inspiring brand of soccer, but a couple of miscues that led to free kicks would be their undoing, as they fell by the score of 3-2.
"We had some lapses in our thinking and they made it count," said NC coach James McKenny. "They took advantage of the set plays and the free kicks, and it is a matter of minutes that make the difference in these games."
