Newport City: Mayor Douses Self For A Good Cause

NEWPORT CITY — There are some people with warm enough hearts that they are willing to drench themselves in ice water for a good cause, in this case, the Ice Bucket Challenge. Mayor Paul Monette is one of those people.

Skateboarders Demonstrate Talents At Shred Fest

NEWPORT CITY - Friday afternoon in Gardner Park the music was blaring and the cheers were loud as dozens of skateboarders with all levels of expertise flaunted their stuff at the Newport Shred Fest.
Newport Shred Fest is a new event the Newport Parks and Recreation Department wants to bring to the city every year.

Vermont Entrepreneurs Pitch Business Ideas to Investors

LOWELL - Seven Vermont entrepreneurs looking for advice on growth and financial assistance pitched their ideas at Steve Mason and Trish Sears' barn, otherwise known as Kingdom Commons, Thursday during the first annual Barn Pitch.
Each presenter had an opportunity to address investors. The investors spent much of this week touring the state on motorcycle. Each day they made stops to hear pitches, as they did Thursday. The investors ended their tour Thursday evening with a press conference in Essex Junction.

Act 250 Approves Jay Peak Rec Center

The District Environmental Commission #7 issued a Land Use Permit Amendment to Jay Peak Resort to construct an indoor recreation facility. The center will be located on State Side. Plans call for a 1,500 multi-level climbing activities, games, and theater space.
The permit has cleared local planning and zoning, but it took several meetings to reach an agreement. Local planners were concerned about parking issues and aesthetics. Planners attached conditions to the permit that deal with landscaping and pedestrian walkways with signage.

Gosselin Development Receives Permit for Sewer Line

August 6, 2014

DERBY–– The Gosselin development project received an Act 250 Land Use permit for a sewer line immediately after the City of Newport withdrew its request for party status and a hearing. The city received a letter from the Village of Derby Center requesting a sewer service area for the Gosselin development. The Newport City Council approved the sewer service and withdrew the city’s  request for an Act 250 hearing on the project.

Owners Of Unlicensed Dogs To Be Hounded Brighton Sends In The Law

BRIGHTON- Town Clerk Teresa Potwin confirmed Tuesday evening that thirty eight dogs in town have not been licensed.  Potwin advised the select board at their meeting she has sent letters and even follow up telephone calls to no avail.

Red Reynolds Shoots a 70 at NCC to Match His Age

August 5, 2014

Long time golfer Red Reynolds shot a 70 to match his age earlier this summer at the Newport Country Club.
Said Reynolds, “It was a perfect scorecard with 16 pars and 2 birdies."
Red is one of Orleans CC's most active members.
He plays several times a week, spends a lot of time working on his game, and is involved with the club’s junior members as well.
Red is the 2012 OCC Senior Club Champion.
