Derby Development: City Of Newport Seeks Party Status In Gosselin Project

Newport City officials say they should have been asked for permission for sewer service being sought by Gosselin Enterprises for a development in Derby. The process for sewer development for the project is going through the Act 250 process, and Newport City has requested party status.

Derby Board Of Selectmen: August 26 Election To Fill Vacant Seat

Derby voters will decide who will serve on the select board until Town Meeting. Former selectman Laura Dolgin resigned earlier this month. Her term was set to expire Town Meeting in March 2015.

Vandals Damage Newport Country Club

NEWPORT CITY – Newport Country Club officials report that sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning vandals caused approximate $2,000 damage on the property.

Schools Don’t Want To Enforce New Idling Law

A new law restricting idling vehicles went into effect in May. With some notable exceptions the law prohibits idling vehicles for more than five minute every hour.

Goulet Earns Top 20 Finish at New England Tournament

North Country golfer Katie Goulet competed in the New England Girls Golf Championship at the Bretwood Golf Course in Keene NH on Monday. She scored an 84 for the day, going 39 and 45. She reported she had a number of birdie opportunities, but had to settle for pars. The second nine provided her with more sand shots than she wanted. Over 60 girls representing six New England states competed for the title, which was won with a score of 72. Katie’s score placed her in the top 20 players. Katie has had a great freshman year and looks forward to next season.

Newport City Wins 12-U Babe Ruth Softball Championship

NEWPORT–Newport City and Derby squared off on Monday night for the Babe Ruth 12-U Softball League Championship in Gardner Park, and with a 5-run outpouring in the bottom of the 6th inning, Newport City was able to wake away with a 7-3 win and the championship trophy.
"The girls take three to four innings to get going, it has been an on-going thing all year, but they usually come out late in the game to prevail," said NC coach Eric Cotnoir.

Two Barton Men Deny Child Porn Possession Charges

Allen Had Previous Conviction

NEWPORT CITY – A Barton man previously convicted of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and possession of child pornography was held Monday at the Northern State Correctional Facility on $250,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to six felony charges of possessing child pornography.
William Allen, 29, could face more charges.

Chenard Released

Colton Chenard was released with conditions Monday after pleading not guilty to four felony charges of possessing child pornography. Chenard previously posted $25,000 bail.
