BARREâ€“Spaulding's Julia Ormsby's goal two minutes and nine seconds into the first half was all the eighth seeded Crimson Tided needed as they held on for the remaining seventy-two-plus minutes to defeat North Country 1-0 in the opening round of the Division I play-offs.
"We played hard, but you never get those goals back," said coach Peter Alexander. "We had eight chances to clear or get something done, and you could see it coming.
"But, from that moment on, I thought we competed and had some decent chances, and I am very pleased with the effort."
CRAFTSBURYâ€“Sisters Elaine and Sarah Dunbar each had a goal as Craftsbury Academy defeated UCA 2-0 in playdown action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Chargers controlled play in the early going, and their pressure paid off when Sarah Dunbar opened the scoring, sending a rebound past United Christian goaltender Lydia Samaan.
In the second, with the score still 1-0 CA, UCA picked up their game and started to pressure the Chargers.
But the home team did not buckle, instead mounting their own assault on the UCA net.
ORLEANS - A brand new coaching staff and an early deficit couldn't stop the Lake Region girls varsity soccer team, who picked up a 2-1 victory over Otter Valley Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the Division II championship tournament.
Senior striker Lauren Nesshoever took advantage of an early lapse in No. 4 Lake Region's defensive unit. Nesshoever pocked a give-and-go 10 minutes into the match to give the No. 13 seeded Otters an early edge.

DERBY LINE â€“ Comic legend Paula Poundstone will grace the Haskell Opera House stage Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. She will hold another performance Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Bellows Falls Opera House.
Poundstone, originally from Sudbury, MA, started performing stand-up comedy at open mic nights at the Charles Theater in Boston at the age of 19.

STANSTEAD, QC - In a press release dated Oct. 19, the offices of NDP (New Democratic Party) Members of Parliament, Jean Rousseau (Compton-Stanstead) and Pierre Jacob (Brome-Missisquoi), stated that there is evidence of human smuggling going on across the Stanstead border, coming from the United States and entering Canada. The two took this position after obtaining a document from the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) through the Information Act.

On Friday, October 5, she had her very first mammogram â€“ after telling all her listeners about it in the week leading up to the procedure. Then on Tuesday, October 9, she reported back to listeners about the experience.
