NEWPORT–If you thought the hurt that the North girls basketball team put on MMU the first time they met was bad, it was nothing compared to the demoralizing 42-7 whopping they dished out on Thursday night.
"We were all stoked, we pretended like it was going to be Rice and we played better defense" said Kelsey O'Donnell on how NC was able to reduce the number of points allowed.
Quite frankly, she is right. They did not just play better defense, they played stifling defense which led to North Country allowing an average 1.75 points per quarter in the win.
Lady Chargers out last Rockets
CRAFTSBURY – The Lady Chargers of Craftsbury Academy took on the Richford Rockets Saturday afternoon and they walked away with a hard fought 41-33 victory.
Coach Rick Thomas said that, “rebound was the determining factor of the game.” His team was able to shoot 55% from the field, while collecting 20 offensive rebounds.
Coach Thomas would later add that, “the New year’s resolution of the team was to go undefeated in January. We are feeling our confidence rise and the girl’s seem to be having fun out on the court.”

NEWPORT, VT - There’s nothing like a warm fire on a cold winter night, right? Before you light that wood burning stove or fireplace, you had better make sure your chimney is clean.
Chimney fires, at least in Newport City, are not as much of a problem as they use to be. However, that may change as oil prices rise and more people start to burn wood.
DERBY - The name has changed slightly but the facility is back in business. Foxwood Horse Stables in Derby, now known as Trinity Equine at Foxwood, is providing winter options for horse lovers in Orleans County.
The operation has re-emerged as a cooperative run by three local horse enthusiasts: Julie Jacobs, Dawn Brainard and Lisa Spates.
The Foxwood facility has plenty of room to spare. It features a lighted indoor arena that measures 200 feet by 100 feet. Spacious stalls, even a heated viewing room bring area riders all the comforts of warmer weather even in the dead of winter.
NORTH TROY, VT - Starr’s Untied, a trucking company in North Troy owned by Senator Robert (Bobby) Starr and his son Eric Starr, has been ordered to shut down by the courts for failing to obtain workers compensation insurance, but that hasn't kept the family out of the trucking business.
NEWPORT CENTER, VT - The Newport Center Fire Department, Newport Ambulance Service and the Vermont State Police responded to a rollover just after 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
Todd Marsh of Newport Center was operating this 5520 John Deere when the vehicle went off the road on VT RT 100 in Newport Center, just past the Number 12 Road.
Marsh drove off the east side of the roadway, down an embankment, and into a field where the tractor flipped on its side.

JAY–What started out as a good night ended in heartbreak for the North Country girls hockey team as Brattleboro rallied from a three goal deficit to beat the Falcons 4-3 in overtime.
"You win some and you lose some, but we still played hard" said team captain Avery Parsons-Grayson on what she said to the team after the loss.
The first period was the highlight for the Falcons. Corrina Cota got things rolling for North Country when she took a Whitney Bernier shot block and sprinted in alone on the Colonel's goalie Lou Lou Terwilliger.

The Vermont Public Service Board (PSB) held a hearing Tuesday evening over Vermont Interactive Television on the proposal, but no one from the general public attended. The sites open for participation were Newport, Johnson, St. Albans, and Williston. The Newport site is located at the Career Center at North Country High School.
NEWPORT, VT - You’ve seen television programs that feature high speed police chases in big cities. But, they don’t happen here, or do they?
Newport City Police Chief J. Paul Duquette said his officers have a couple to a half dozen chases every year.

NEWPORT–Already 3-0 at home this season, the North Country boys won their fourth game of the year in dramatic fashion on Tuesday evening as they picked up the 70-68 victory over St. Johnsbury on the back of Colton White's game winner in double-overtime.
"It was very, very intense," said White of the game, "We played with a lot of heart. In the beginning our offense wasn't really flowing, so we had to gain some momentum to get it going."
