NEWPORT CITY â€” When voters here as well as Coventry and Newport Town head out to town meeting next week, they will see that Newport Ambulance Service (NAS) is asking for more money than it has in the past.

With the thermometer often well below zero, this February is shaping up to be the coldest in years.
Mark Breen, a meteorologist at the Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury, said Tuesday that the coldest February was in 1934 when the average temperature was 6.1 degrees.

The Vermont Legislatureâ€™s House Education Committee is considering a bill that would eliminate small school funding on the basis that the grant is redundant. If the bill is enacted into law the Orleans Central Supervisory Union (OCSU) and North Country Supervisory Union (NCSU) would lose $480,459 and $684,087 respectively in FYâ€™16.
