NEWPORT–There will be no shortage of veterans for the North Country girls basketball team this season. The ten player team consists of an even split of juniors and seniors, including all of the 2010-2011 starters, and Coach Christiane Brown is ready to work with the older group.
"I'll tell you what is exciting for North Country is that we are veterans. I have an experienced squad coming back and it's like I don't have to teach what our system is. They know it. They have experienced it, and it is just now giving them friendly reminders."

LOWELL, VT - A group of about 20 protesters met on the Lowell Mountain ridge line yesterday to protest “Environmental Destruction” on the site where 21 industrial sized turbines are being constructed.
Some protesters were clad in bear costumes and held sings that read, “I can’t find my den.” The costumes signified the disruption to wildlife habitat, said Steve Wright of Craftsbury in a press release. Wright is an active opponent of the project.
Protesters stopped construction Monday morning for two hours before leaving the site.

Buses transported students and staff to the Charleston Town Clerk’s Office while firefighters dealt with the problem. The only person to remain at the school was Principal Sharon Gonyaw.
The United Christian Academy Lady Crusaders enter the 2011-2012 campaign in a rebuilding mode. Gone are the likes of Gina Clark and Ashley Bonin, and replace them with a group of ladies, with no senior leadership, and some with little to no basketball experience.
Sarah Roy will once again be at the helm of the UCA squad. It is her 2nd year as head coach of the Crusaders, but she is no stranger to the sidelines, having spent years as a North Country assistant, as well as an AAU and Border Hoop coach.
NEWPORT–Change is in the air for the North Country basketball boys, but it is not so much a change on the court or in personnel as it is a change in attitude. When I walked into the gym last week to speak with the team and it's head coach Brian Bonvechio, I could sense that things were different with this group.
Multiple members of the senior leadership group addressed this issue before I even had a chance to speak to Bonvechio.
"We've got much better chemistry than we have had in years, and that's helped tremendously," said Taylor Prue.
The United Christian Academy Crusaders enter the 2011-2012 campaign under the guidance of Tony DelaBruere.
