It’s All Hands on Deck for UCA Boys Soccer This Season

August 29, 2012

NEWPORT–Last year players were hard to come by for the United Christian Academy boys soccer team.
This year they got all the players they could.
Literally.
There are fourteen boys that range in grade from 8th-12th at UCA and they are all playing for coach Alyssa DeLaBruere this season.
Three eighth graders will make their debut for the team along with some of new international players, who are still stuck in Korea due to sever weather conditions.

READY FOR THE CALL

August 28, 2012

NEWPORT CITY - Most people try to avoid the devastation and destruction that natural disasters can cause. However, that is not the case for many of the nation’s first responders who are more than willing to rush into the storm.
While Hurricane Isaac headed to the Gulf Coast, rescue, ambulance and first responder teams around the nation geared up to lend a helping hand, even though most may never be deployed. Like the Boy Scouts, these teams are always prepared, just in case.

From Katrina to Isaac

August 28, 2012

NEW ORLEANS, LA - On the 7th year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's deadly assault on the United States, New Orleans braces for a second volley from Isaac, a tropical storm that has grown to a Category 1 hurricane with 75 mph winds and which may reach Category 2 status.
Katrina was the sixth largest hurricane in recorded history and left over 1800 people dead in its wake. Total property damage was estimated at $81 billion, and the recovery is still on-going.

August 28, 2012

ORLEANS–The days of the being a ground and pound crew for the Lake Region girls soccer team are all but over.
Coach Brad Urie has taken the rough and tumble teams of the last few seasons, and infused a blend of speed and finesse that he hopes will produce the same kinds of results that his previous squads have.

UVM Donates Cruiser to Sheriff's Department

August 27, 2012

DERBY – The Orleans County Sheriff’s Department is rising from the wreckage of the Roger Pion rampage and slowly but surely rebuilding its fleet of vehicles. Monday morning, University of Vermont Campus Security donated a 2008 Crown Victoria cruiser to the department.
Other than registering it, putting on decals and installing a two-way radio, the cruiser is ready to go. The vehicle is already well equipped with police lights, a rifle rack, rechargeable flashlight, a rear seat prisoner cage and a security cage.

Field Hockey Falcons Could Be Sleeper Team in 2012

August 27, 2012

NEWPORT–Losing one or two key players to graduation can be tough.
Losing the bulk of your starters and top reserves is almost mind numbing.
Be that as it may, that is what Chantelle Bouchard and the rest of the 2012 field hockey Falcons must contend with as they embark on this year's campaign.
"It's hard to fill their positions for sure, but as the season moves on we will be able to tell more," said the coach.
As hard as it is to reboot, North Country is going to go at it full steam ahead and could surprise some folks along their way.
